A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of an early morning blaze that destroyed a home at 88 Bishop Road in Monaghan Township on Saturday.
The fire was reported after an on-duty Cumberland County medic saw the smoke and called York County Control, said Les Darr, First Assistant Chief Monaghan Township Volunteer Fire Company.
Crews were called to the 2-story home of Walter and Barbra Scott around 6:30 a.m. to find the couple was out of town and nobody was in the house, Darr said.
The 2,400 square foot house, which was sided with wood, was fully engulfed. Though firefighters worked on the scene until about noon, the house was a complete loss, he said.
No damage estimate was available Monday morning, he said, and officials are waiting for the fire marshal's investigation to determine the cause.
Investigators don't consider the fire suspicious, he said. The house was very secluded and the fire broke out very early in the morning, he said.
He said the couple plans to stay with family in the area.
