The Spring Grove Area School Board this week approved the addition of an emergency access road on the Roth's Church Road campus.

Board members and district administration realized that emergency vehicle access could be limited if an emergency were to occur along Rocket Drive.

Rocket Drive is the long road that runs from Roth's Church Road up to the high school, passing the intermediate school, sports fields and the stadium along the way.

As approved, the gravel access road will provide a way for emergency vehicles to get up the hill on the Spring Grove Elementary side, cross over to Rocket Drive and then proceed down the hill.

The district awarded the bid to H&H General Contracting at a cost of $8,100.

According to district community relations coordinatore Lisa Smith, a specific timetable has not been announced, but discussions have focused on completing the work before any winter weather sets in.
