With the Affordable Care Act still snagging headlines, many still don't know how it will affect them.

That's why the York NAACP, in partnership with the PA Health Access Network, will hold a forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on what has been dubbed Obamacare, said NAACP York president Sandra Thompson. The forum takes place at the Crispus Attucks Association, 605 S. Duke St. in York City.

"This is educational and informational," she said. The NAACP is a nonpartisan organization; the PA Health Access Network is a proponent of the Affordable Care Act and expansion of Medicaid, she said.

The forum will focus on the Oct. 1 open enrollment into new health care exchanges, Medicaid expansion for Pennsylvania in 2014 and options for those who have pre-existing conditions, she said.

"This is the first opportunity for them to obtain insurance at a reasonable-cost rate," Thompson said.

The forum is free, open to the public and will address issues for both the currently insured and the uninsured, she said. There will be an hour-long presentation, then 30 to 45 minutes allotted for a question-and-answer session, she said.

"Even people who are not for Obamacare should come out and find out how it's going to affect them," Thompson said.
