West York Police arrested two people - an alleged John and an alleged prostitute - on prostitution charges over the weekend.
The man who allegedly picked up a prostitute late Saturday night, Robert Francis Kelly, 52, of Dover, Del., is charged with promoting prostitution and is free on $7,500 bail, according to court documents.
The alleged prostitute, Shirea Renae Lake, 25, of the 700 block of Jessop Place in York City, is charged with promoting prostitution, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She remains in York County Prison on $2,500 bail, according to court documents.
A borough police officer stopped the Ford Escort Kelly was driving after it made turned onto Seward Street without using a turn signal from West King Street about 11 p.m., according to Kelly's charging documents.
Lake was a passenger in the car, documents state.
At first, Kelly said he knew Lake for some time, but after further questioning, he told the officer that he picked up the woman in York City after he called a friend, saying he was looking for a girl to have sex with, documents state.
Kelly also told the officer that he and Lake were driving around looking for a man named "Monk," who was to sell them crack cocaine and was going to let them have sex in his house, documents state.
When an officer asked Lake if she's a prostitute, she replied, "Yeah, if that's what you want to call it," documents state.
