A Jacobus man is charged with DUI after he crashed into a house and then fled the scene Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
Richard Gene Markle, 50, of the 200 block of North Main Street, is also charged with hit and run, failure to render aid and to give information and restriction of alcoholic beverages, according to Southern Regional Police.
He is free on $25,000 unsecured bail.
Police say a bystander flagged down an officer and reported that a pickup truck had just struck a house in the 100 block of South Main Street in Shrewsbury about 4:30 p.m. and fled at a high rate of speed.
Officers searched the area and found the truck on Pleasant Valley Road at Glen Valley Road in Shrewsbury Township. The intoxicated driver was identified as Markle and he was taken to central booking, where he was arraigned, police said.
Officers also found an intoxicated passenger and a cooler with beer in it in the pickup truck, police said.
No one was injured and damage to the house was minor, police said.
