York County will lose two longtime managers to retirement this year, including the county's highest-paid professional.

County administrator/chief clerk Chuck Noll, who has held the county's top administrative position for 16 years, is expected to retire at the end of the year.

County commissioners announced the opening, for which they're accepting resumes, at Wednesday's meeting. Vice President Commissioner Doug Hoke said Noll makes about $124,000 per year and has some of the most important responsibilities.

The position is about 70 percent management and 30 percent budget and bills, Hoke said, and Noll has been a "steady-handed" professional and will be "highly missed" in the county.

Appointed by the commissioners, the administrator/chief clerk oversees county departments, based on policy and administrative decisions made by the elected commissioners.

The position is also chief financial manager for the county, responsible for preparing and presenting annual budgets for adoption. This year's county budget was $470 million.

The person holding the position also serves as the primary administrative point-of-contact in emergencies, crises, safety violations, and any matters requiring immediate attention.

Also leaving is Al Raniero, executive director of the York County Information Services Department, who will retire Aug. 2 after 19 years in the technology position, said county spokesman Carl Lindquist.

Raniero oversees the county's computer networks and program applications.
