York College was in a lockdown for about two hours starting around midnight Thursday morning after two armed robberies were reported near the campus.

Spring Garden Township Police said a man carried "a long gun" and robbed two people in five minutes, at 11:40 and 11:45 p.m. The man demanded money first from a man who was walking in the 700 block of Colonial Avenue and next from a woman who was walking in the 900 block of Grantley Road, police said.

The robber didn't get anything from the man, but police said he was able to take something from the female.

Neither victim was injured, but the female was taken to a hospital for a "checkup," police said.

Emergency: After the robberies, York College's Office of Campus Safety declared a campus emergency because the robber had been seen walking toward campus.

Students, faculty and staff were advised to stay where they were and told to secure all doors and windows, pull down shades, turn off lights, move to an unobservable part of the room away from doors and windows and await further instructions or contact by first responders.

Campus officers and local police searched the campus and surrounding area for the suspect.

But at 1:45 a.m. Thursday, the campus emergency alert was lifted and the "all-clear" notification had been given.

Not found: Police continue to look for the robber, described as a black male between 18 and 20 years old, about 5-foot-7, with a medium build and wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 843-0851.
