The search for Thomas Augustyniak, the Glen Rock man who went missing Wednesday morning, was called off Thursday night, a borough fire official said.
The incident is now a police investigation,said Mike Naylor, second assistant chief with Glen Rock Hose & Ladder Co.
Despite efforts by crews from Glen Rock and a number of other agencies, Augustnyiak was not found Thursday.
An official with the Southern Regional Police Department, the agency heading the search, could not be immediately reached for comment.
Police searched an area of Glen Rock Thursday for a borough man who went missing Wednesday morning.
About 2 p.m. Thursday, Southern Regional Police, with help from other agencies, started searching near the home of Thomas Augustyniak, 53, who went for a walk and never returned.
Police concentrated on a heavily wooded area near the Glen Rock Cemetery, not far from the corner of Church Street and Williams Court.
Police said Augustyniak regularly took walks and lived near the wooded area.
About 7 a.m. Wednesday, he grabbed his cigarettes and lighter, but left behind his car keys, cellphone and wallet, according to police. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue jacket and white leather sneakers.
Assisting in the search was Lou, a tracking bloodhound with the York County Sheriff's Office, a state police helicopter and manpower from agencies in Pennsylvania and Maryland, according to police.
