A York City man who tried twice to burglarize a North York sub shop, but failed both times, has been criminally charged, police said.
Officers were sent to Brenda's Subs, 401 N. George St., about 11:54 p.m. Thursday for a burglar alarm sounding. There, they found someone had cut the phone lines to the business, damaged an electrical connection and damaged a rear door while trying to pry it open, police said.
Less than three hours later, about 2:20 a.m. Friday, a York City officer spotted someone lurking in the shadows near Brenda's Subs and gave chase, police said. The officer captured Edmundo Aponte-Vega Sr. on Jefferson Avenue and seized from him a crowbar and several screwdrivers, police said.
Northern Regional officers later determined Aponte-Vega twice tried to burglarize the sub shop over the course of a few hours, police said.
Aponte-Vega, 22, of 419 Walnut St., is charged with burglary, possessing instruments of crime, loitering and prowling at night and two counts of criminal mischief.
