The West York VFW donated $4,000 to U.S. Army Cpl. Matthew Hanes to be used to make his parents' East Manchester Township home accessible to the wheelchair-bound veteran.
Hanes, 21, returned home earlier this month after being in rehabilitation in a Florida hospital since July. While he was in Florida, a number of community members, including businesses and students, donated time and money to make the home accessible to Hanes, who was wounded in Afghanistan.
Bob Shank, chairman of the West York VFW, said the club members and veterans decided to donate the money "as part of our way to take care of one of our own."
VFW members and officers presented Hanes with the donation Wednesday.
