Two state troopers shot and killed a pit bull early Tuesday morning in Codorus Township.

The troopers were called to an area along Seven Valleys Road shortly before 1 a.m. for a complaint of a stray dog running at large, state police said.

The dog, which had no collar or identification, "assumed an aggressive stance toward the troopers," growled and was poised to charge them, according to police.

Both troopers fired at the dog, which was killed, police said.
