The Southern Regional Police Department is investigating a series of burglaries over the last year in New Freedom.

The residential burglaries happened on streets near East Main Street and Shafer Drive in the area of East Main St. and South Shafer[eya: cq: ] Drive, Police Sgt. Darryl Smuck II said in a news release.

The burglaries involved forced entry into homes at various times. Mostly jewelry and money were taken, according to Smuck.

Residents are asked to be alert and to immediately call 911 if they see anything suspicious. Residents also can call police with information at 717-235-3944 or 717-840-2971.
