Only the very best dogs get the chance to compete for best in show at the second-largest dog show on the East Coast.

And for Rodger, a Pekingese from Scotland, second-best was just enough on Friday night.

One of the top handlers in the country, David Fitzpatrick of East Berlin, presented Rodger during the Celtic Classic Dog Show. The two won reserve best in show for the night, and best in show on Thursday.

Despite being one of the top handlers in the country, Fitzpatrick matches the temperament of Rodger: laid-back and friendly.

"This is my life," he said with a laugh. Fitzpatrick won the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in 2012 with a different Pekingese.

York City Mayor Kim Bracey presented a dozen white roses - representing York - to Friday night's best in show: a Russell Terrier.

The Celtic Classic continues until Sunday at the York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Ave. in West Manchester Township.
