Daniel Joseph Smith Jr. of York pleaded guilty Friday morning to third-degree murder. The 27-year-old defendant said nobody was supposed to get hurt in the robbery.
However, investigators say 40-year-old Anaida Rivera was gagged with duct tape and beaten during the attack in York in 2011. Her children found her body.
Police say Smith and three other assailants made off with $80 and some jewelry. Smith's co-defendants had hearings scheduled Friday afternoon.
The York Dispatch reports ( http://bit.ly/ZNKQMe) Smith was sentenced to 40 to 100 years in prison.
Prosecutors read a statement in court from Rivera's now 9-year-old son, who says he still has nightmares.
