A York man abandoned his car in a grassy area of Lake Redman after it veered off the Susquehanna Trail and into the park, police said.

Berrell Hughes Sr., 37, and a passenger escaped injury in the crash, which happened just before 4 a.m. March 2 in the Springfield Township Park, according to state police.

Police said Hughes was northbound on the Trail, just north of Jacobus, when he lost control. His 1997 BMW 750 went off the road and into a Lake Redman parking lot, police said.

It went through the lot, over a parking barrier and stopped in the grass, police said. Hughes was unable to get his car out of the grass, so he fled the scene and left it there, police said. Hughes will be cited for the traffic violation of driving in the wrong lane, police said.
