A celebration of life memorial service will be held at the Susquehanna Speedway Park at 4 p.m. Saturday for York's Carl Billet.

The seven-time SSP late-model champion died Monday, Feb. 25, from complications related to a stroke.

The public service will be held in the front pit area of the track, a place Billet enjoyed spending time with fellow drivers, crews and fans after the races. Everyone attending is asked to park in the spectator parking area.

Billet, was born March 14, 1954, two months before the first race held at Susquehanna Speedway. Billet was 58 when he died and is the current leader for all-time feature wins at SSP with 58. The next closest in the late-model class with feature wins is Jeff Leiphart with 28. Billet's racing career began 33 years ago.

Billet collected a total of 18 track championships and 182 feature victories at a combination of SSP and other speedways in Pennsylvania, the most other notable being Silver Spring Speedway, which ceased operation in 2005. At Silver Spring, Billet collected 57 feature wins and six track titles. Billet also had at least one feature win in the last 26 consecutive years.

The 2013 season opener of SSP's Stock Car Saturday Night will be Saturday, April 6, with the late models, street stocks, classic cars and the super sportsman tour, with a special tribute planned for Billet that night as well.
