An 81-year-old Red Lion woman's wrong way trip on Interstate 83 came to a quick end Saturday when she sideswiped a state police car with the vehicle she was driving.
A trooper was traveling in the left northbound lane near mile marker 16, near the South Queen Street exit, behind an SUV when, a little after 11 p.m., the SUV abruptly swerved into the right lane, police said.
The trooper then noticed a vehicle going south in the northbound lane, heading straight for his car and swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a head-on crash. The vehicle sideswiped the patrol car, police said.
Neither the trooper nor the woman, whose name was not released by police, was injured in the crash.
The woman told authorities that she had gotten lost and was confused but couldn't say where she got on the highway going the wrong way, police said.
The patrol car sustained minor damage while the woman's vehicle sustained moderate damage.
