The York City bureau responsible for issuing building permits and enforcing the zoning code has lost its deputy director.
As of Feb. 19, Joslin Kearse is no longer employed by the city, said Kevin Schreiber, director of the city's economic and community development department, which includes the permits, planning and zoning bureau.
Schreiber declined to elaborate on why Kearse's employment came to an end.
"We've had some personnel changes," he said.
Schreiber said the city is evaluating its options to replace Kearse.
In the meantime, former York City Fire Chief Steve Buffington is serving as interim deputy director.
Schreiber said he is confident in Buffington's ability to the lead the bureau, which he joined last summer as the city's building-code official. He had retired from the fire department in April.
The city is also searching for a new zoning officer, Schreiber said.
A job ad netted several dozen applicants, and interviews are ongoing, he said Monday.
