York County Coroner Barry Bloss said there's nothing suspicious about the deaths of a West Manchester Township man and his mother, both found dead Tuesday inside their West Manchester Township mobile home.
"The deaths are under investigation, but we don't consider them suspicious," he said. "There's no trauma on the bodies."
West Manchester Township Police found the bodies about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday inside their trailer at Lawson Mobile Home Park, just off North Emigs Mill Road, after a neighbor called 911.
Bloss said it appears the man, in his late 30s, and his mother, in her mid 60s, lay down on the floor to go to sleep. She was on a mattress on the floor, he had a pillow under his head, the coroner said.
No break-in: Their home was secure and not ransacked, so burglary doesn't appear to be the cause either, according to the coroner.
"Until we get autopsy results, we don't know what we have, truthfully," Bloss said. "If we find nothing significant (at autopsy), then we'll have to wait for toxicology results to see if these people took something."
When you have more than one death and there's no trauma to the bodies, investigators must consider drugs as a possible cause of death, he confirmed.
It sometimes takes three months to get results from toxicology tests, Bloss said.
The autopsy is set for Thursday at Allentown's Lehigh Valley Hospital, according to township Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Snell.
He said it's standard procedure to treat all undetermined deaths as suspicious until the cause is known.
The names of the man and his mother have not been released.
Found: Michael Perry, who lives next door, said the man moved in with his mother about three years ago.
They became more reclusive and paranoid to the point that they'd padlock the front door when they left in fear of their home being burglarized, he said.
After not seeing them since late last week, Perry went to the home and knocked on its door Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. No one answered, he said.
After not getting a response Tuesday, he had a neighbor call 911.
"I figured it was the best thing to do since nobody seen hide nor hair for the past couple days," Perry said.
