Dover residents Darion Benchich and Macoy Fisher have been selected to the Delaware Valley Hockey League Pee Wee AA All-Star Team.
They will participate in an all-star game at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Power Play Exton Ice Rink. Both boys will be teammates on the Eastern All-Star Team, comprised of players from 12 different DVHL teams. They will take on the Western All-Star Team, also comprised of players from 12 other DVHL teams.
Benchich, a center-forward, scored 30 goals with 26 assists in 45 games this season in his first season of playing Pee Wee AA for the Hershey Junior Bears Ice Hockey Club. Benchich has played ice hockey for nine seasons, beginning at age 3.
Fisher, a goaltender and also a teammate on the Pee Wee AA Hershey Bears Junior Ice Hockey Club, had a 14-6-2 record during the 2012-2013 season, with a 2.72 goals-against average in 25 games and a .878 save percentage.
The Hershey Junior Bears Pee Wee AA team is 29-13-4 this season, with a fourth-place finish in league play at 17-5-4. The team also won the Hershey Christmas Tournament and finished second at the Silver Sticks Eastern Regional Tournament in Rockville, Md. The club's coach, Mark Freer, is a former NHL player with the Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators and Calgary Flames.
