A locally formed rock group that recently won a Grammy will return to the York Fair, headlining on a stage where it was once an opening act.
Halestorm, which won the 2013 Grammy for "Best Hard Rock and Metal" performance, will perform on the Toyota Grandstand on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Fair general manager Mike Froehlich said the group, which formed in Red Lion, last appeared at the fair as an opener for the "Extreme Homecoming Party" in September 2009.
"Now they're going to be headliners in York, their hometown," he said. "They just won a Grammy, which is very significant for any group to accomplish that level of recognition in the industry. I think there's going to be a great turnout."
The group has grown in popularity since the Grammy win and has gotten a lot of media exposure.
Halestorm's most popular songs include "Love Bites (So Do I)," "Mz. Hyde," "I Miss The Misery," "Freak Like Me," "Beautiful with You," "In Your Room," "Break In," "Rock Show," and "American Boys".
Tickets go on sale Saturday at 9 a.m. at the York Fair Box office on Carlisle Avenue. Order by phone at 848-2033 and online at www.yorkfair.com. Tickets cost $29.
Roots: Elizabeth Hale, who goes by the I-free name "Lzzy," and brother Arejay Hale are both of Red Lion and are founding members of Halestorm.
Lzzy Hale is the band's lead vocalist, backed by her drummer brother, guitarist Joe Hottinger and bassist Josh Smith. Halestorm signed with Atlantic Records in 2005.
Halestorm got its start in Red Lion about 15 years ago, when Lzzy and Arejay Hale first took the stage as kids. The two siblings cut their musical teeth playing at places like the York Fair and the Tourist Inn in Hellam Township.
Other artists confirmed for concerts during this year's fair are Alan Jackson and Austin Mahone.
