West York Police on Wednesday arrested two York City store owners they say instructed a man to steal items they then bought.
Li Jian Wang, 61, and Yu Ping Xu, 57, are both charged with organized retail theft, conspiracy to commit retail theft, solicitation, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to online court documents.
Bail was set at $15,000 each and Wang and Xu remain in York County Prison, documents state.
Wang and Xu own Yungs Store, 255 S. Penn St. and live in an apartment above it.
Police were dispatched to the Giant Food Store at 1200 W. Market St. at 12:36 p.m. for a retail theft. A patrolman quickly arrested the alleged shoplifter who turned informant, telling police he was instructed by Wang and Xu to steal cold medicine, police said.
With police close by, the man sold the medicine, which was marked by police, to Wang and Xu at their store, Yungs Store, 255 S. Penn St. in the city in a controlled buy a little after 8 p.m., police said.
After the man left the store with money from the sale in hand, patrolmen executed a search warrant, finding the marked medicine, police said.
Police said they also found small plastic bags used to distribute drugs in the store.
Wang and Xu were arrested and arraigned at central booking this morning, police said.
