A section of Interstate 83 in Lemoyne will be closed Monday night into Tuesday morning as beams on the new Lowther Street bridge are put into place.
The state Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling I-83 and Route 581 that they will encounter a single-lane restriction in each direction at 9 p.m. followed by an overnight detour between 11 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday as crews set the remaining bridge beams into place over I-83.
I-83 northbound traffic will be diverted off the highway at Brandt Avenue, and southbound traffic will detoured at Exit 42, the Lemoyne exit.
The work is part of a nearly $8 million contract, awarded to Susquehanna Valley Construction Corporation of New Cumberland, that includes the installation of a temporary bridge, removal of the old Lowther Street bridge and construction of a new bridge large enough to accommodate four lanes of I-83 as well as three ramps underneath.
PennDOT expects work on the new Lowther Street bridge to be completed by the end of May 2013.
