Nearly $3,000 worth of maintenance equipment was stolen from the maintenance building of Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community in West Manchester Township recently.

An employee of the 1700 Normandie Drive senior community saw a man who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt prowling around the building about 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 7, according to West Manchester Township Police.

The man got into an older black van to leave. The employee tried to stop the man from leaving by blocking the van's path with a maintenance truck but the man was able to maneuver the van around the truck and left, police said.

A white towel was used to cover the license plate of the van, police said.

After taking an inventory of the building, employees discovered that $2,738 worth of items were stolen, police said.

Police did not say what items were stolen.
