Three people suffered minor injuries Tuesday morning in a four-vehicle chain-reaction crash on Interstate 83 northbound near the Lewisberry exit, state police said.
The 11:05 a.m. crash closed both northbound lanes for about 45 minutes, according to Trooper Rob Hicks, a state police spokesman.
PennDOT road workers had the right lane closed for maintenance, so northbound traffic was stop-and-go through the area, Hicks said.
The driver of a Toyota sedan failed to notice the stopped traffic and rear-ended a Ford F-150 truck, which in turn rear-ended a third vehicle that then crashed into the back of a Fed-Ex tractor-trailer, according to Hicks.
The rig driver escaped injury. The three other drivers were taken to local hospitals after complaining of non-life-threatening injuries, the trooper said.
The three passenger vehicles were heavily damaged, Hicks said, and the Fed-Ex truck sustained minor damage.
