The York County Heritage Trust Auxiliary is offering free fastnachts, coffee, tea and hot chocolate Tuesday for Fastnacht Day.
The free goodies will be available from 9:30 a.m. until noon at the Historical Society Museum at 250 E. Market St.
Fastnacht Day originated with Pennsylvania Germans on Shrove Tuesday, when all of the fat had to be removed from a household before Lent, according to the trust. The Fastnacht Day tradition at the trust began in 1955.
The York County Heritage Trust Auxiliary sponsors and runs the event as a thank-you to the community for their support of their projects during the year.
Fastnacht Day is also known as Fat Tuesday and fastnacht is a German word meaning "night before the fast."
