Police are looking for a man who stole a jar containing money for a local charity from the Rutter's Farm Store in New Freedom in January.

The man went to the 2 S. Broad St. store just before 10 p.m. on Jan. 23 to return two packs of cigarettes, Southern York County Regional Police said on Thursday.

As the clerk was distracted, the man put the jar, which was on the counter, under his jacket and left the store.

The money was being collected for Support Our American Recruits, which ships packages to local troops serving overseas.
