Country singer and songwriter Alan Jackson will be performing at the York Fair on Friday, Sept. 13, fair officials announced today.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Toyota Grandstand.
Tickets go on sale at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the York Fair box office, by phone at 717-848-2033, and online at www.yorkfair.com.
Tickets start at $44 for side track, side plaza and side grandstand, and are $49 for track, plaza and center grandstand seats. Concert tickets purchased before Monday, August 26 will also include admission to the fair.
"He played a lot of fairs similar to ours last year and they sold out," said Gene Schenck, York Fair president. "He does really well at a fair venue, so there is a lot of excitement.
"There is a good chance we'll hit a home run on this one," Schenck said.
Jackson played at the York Fair in 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997.
"When he's not here it's not because we don't like him," said Schenck. "But the stars have to line up."
For instance, if an artist is touring on the west coast during the fair, he or she is ruled out for potential performances, Schenck said.
"He's a guy who likes fairs and does really well at fairs," Schenck said.
"His show is really good," said Schenck. "He always has songs people recognize, and some songs you haven't heard for a couple of years."
The country superstar has topped the country singles charts 35 times and has more than 50 Top Ten hits.
Some of Jackson's hit songs include "Chattahoochee," "Don't Rock the Jukebox," "Gone Country," "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere," "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)," and "Good Time."
His most recent album, Thirty Miles West, includes the Grammy-nominated song "So You Don't Have to Love Me Anymore." The album topped the country chart when it was released in June.
He is an 18 time American Country Music Award winner, a 16 time Country Music Award recipient, and a two-time Grammy winner.
Jackson was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011.
