Two burglars accidentally led officers to their apparent lair after breaking into Conewago Elementary School in Conewago Township, police said.
Northern York County Regional Police said they responded to a burglar alarm at the 570 Copenhaffer Road school about 12:15 a.m. Sunday.
There, officers found someone had broken a classroom window to get inside. They also found a flashlight belonging to the burglars inside the classroom, police said.
The burglars didn't get in any other rooms inside the school, and left through an exit door, according to police, who said it's still being determined whether anything was stolen.
Officers followed two sets of footprints in the freshly fallen snow, which led them to a nearby housing development, police said.
So far, no arrests have been made and the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 292-3647, or leave a tip online at nycrpd.org.
