Springettsbury Township Police are encouraging everyone to keep valuables hidden from view when left in unattended cars, after two electronic book readers were stolen from parked cars recently.
On Tuesday, a Kindle reader was stolen from a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot of Books a Million on Whiteford Road. A second Kindle was stolen from a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Michael's on Pleasant Valley Road, according to police.
In both cases, the passenger side windows of the vehicles were broken, police said.
Most of these incidents are crimes of opportunity. If a criminal sees something valuable out in the open he/she is more likely to target that vehicle, police said.
Police also encourage everyone to lock the doors of their vehicles.
Anyone with any information about the thefts is asked to contact police at 757-3525.
