York Area Regional Police are accepting applications for a Citizen Police Academy that starts later this month.

Classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays from Feb. 27 to May 1, according to the department.

Participants will learn about basic police operations, such as arrests, traffic enforcement, use of force and investigations. They will also tour the York County 911 center, York County Prison, the county's forensic laboratory and central booking, police said.

The academy is open to the first 35 people ages 18 and over who register. Registration ends Feb. 25.

Those interested are asked to contact the department at 741-1259 for an application.
