An errant bullet -- possibly shot into the air by a New Year's Eve reveler -- crashed through the ceiling of a Jackson Township home and landed on the residents' bed, police said.

Northern York County Regional Police were called to the home, in the 300 block of Shady Dell Road, about 11:50 p.m. Monday.

The residents told officers they were away from home between 9:30 and 11:30 p.m.

When they came home, they noticed a hole in the ceiling of their bedroom, and a spent bullet lying atop their bed, according to police.

It appears the bullet was shot into the air by someone in the area, police said, "possibly in celebration of the upcoming new year."

Anyone with information on who might have fired the bullet is asked to call police at 292-3647, or leave a tip online at nycrpd.org.
