A Dover Township man was killed Thursday afternoon in Lower Windsor Township when a tree he was helping to cut down fell on him.

Joseph Lahr, 65, of Oakland Road, was pronounced dead just before 3 p.m. at York Hospital, Deputy Coroner Steve Cosey said.

Lahr was working for Windsor-based S&T Tree Service, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

About 1:40 p.m., Lahr tried to get out of the way of the falling tree, but couldn't.

"He slipped and fell as the tree was falling, and he was unable to get out of the way," Cosey said.

An autopsy is set for Friday at Allentown's Lehigh Valley Hospital.

OSHA is still investigating the incident.

An investigator with OSHA's Harrisburg office was in York County on Friday to look into the accident, said Dan Dewease, assistant area director for OSHA's Harrisburg office.

The agency has six months to investigate the incident before reporting its findings.
