A liquid manure spill closed parts of Indian Rock Dam Road and Croll School Road in Spring Garden Township for several hours Thursday evening until crews from the state Department of Transportation could clean up the mess, according to York County 911.

Officials said the roads were reopened by Friday morning.

Police and fire crews were first dispatched to an area near the intersection of Indian Rock Dam Road and Croll School Road just before 4 p.m. for a report of a substance on a bridge.

They determined that it was liquid manure but a hazardous materials team was also dispatched as a precautionary measure, a York County 911 spokesman said.

The spill appears to be related to a similar one found in Red Lion, the spokesman said.

A section of East Broadway was closed for less than an hour as that mess was cleaned up, a fire official said.
