Firefighters called to a North York home Tuesday night found the body of a suicide victim, officials confirmed.
"The fire department was called for an odor of natural gas ... about 10:15 or 10:20 (p.m.)," said Lt. David Lash of Northern York County Regional Police.
But there was no fire and no gas leak at the home in the 100 block of East Seventh Avenue.
Instead, the gas burners on the home's stove were turned on, "indicative of someone using gas burners to heat their home," Lash said.
Police and York County Chief Deputy Coroner Claude Stabley were called after crews found the body in a bed, Lash said.
Stabley said the 54-year-old man committed suicide and was pronounced dead at the scene. No autopsy is planned.
The man lived there alone, according to Stabley. His name has not been released.
