Police are warning people about yet another phone scam designed to trick victims into giving up either cash or personal information.
Springettsbury Township Police learned of the latest scam when a township resident called them on Tuesday to complain.
She said a male caller claimed to be with the "U.S. Government Office of Enforcement" and said there was a warrant for her arrest because she owed $800 in back taxes. He told the woman she needed to pay up or go to jail, police said.
But when the woman called the IRS, she was told the agency doesn't collect unpaid taxes that way, and that the call was a scam, police said.
Also, there is no "U.S. Government Office of Enforcement."
Police remind people not to give out personal information over the phone or in emails, including Social Security numbers, credit card information and bank account numbers.
