The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Sunday closed Black Lane and the bridge that carries Black Lane over the South Branch of the Conewago Creek between the villages of Irishtown and Edgegrove in Adams County.
The road and bridge were closed because of the emergence of a sinkhole that undermined the road and also threatened to damage the bridge. Black Lane will likely remain closed until the end of this week as repairs are made to the road and the bridge is inspected.
PennDOT advises travelers that Black Lane is closed to through traffic between Oxford Avenue in Conewago Township and Mount Misery Road in Oxford Township until the repairs are completed. Until then, a detour that follows Irishtown Road and Edgegrove Road is available for motorists.
Black Lane, officially designated as State Route 2009, averages more than 3,800 vehicles each day.
