Southwestern Regional Police are saying a suspected scam from door-to-door solicitors is actually the legitimate work of people raising money for firefighters in North Codorus Township.

Over the past week, police have received several calls from township residents who were unsure if certain solicitors were legitimate, police said in a news release.

But police said Wednesday there is a legitimate fundraiser being conducted through the township's fire department, which has hired Fire Rescue Portrait Studios to work on its behalf.

The solicitors will have two forms of identification: an identification card from the company and a solicitation permit card issued by North Codorus Township, police said. They will be conducting business in the township until the middle of January 2013, police said.

Concerned residents can call the Southwestern Regional Police at 854-5571 or the North Codorus Township building at 225-4812.
