In order to curb overtime costs, the York Social Security Office has shortened hours for serving the public.

Effective Monday, Nov. 19, the York Social Security Office, at 950 Borom Road in York City, will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

That's a reduction of 30 minutes per day, according to a news release the office issued Friday.

Beginning Jan. 2, the office will close at noon on Wednesdays.

Agency employees will continue to work their regular hours. Shortening their public window service hours will give employees more time to complete face-to-face interviews and process claims, reducing overtime costs.

Funding: The U.S. Social Security Administration's funding has been reduced for the first six months of the fiscal year, cutting funds to cover overtime costs.

Also, all Social Security field offices -- including the York office -- will be closed to the public Friday, Nov. 23, to allow employees working that day to focus on reducing backlogged workloads.
