The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will be participating in its 17th year of Project FeederWatch, a research and educational project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Audubon that monitors winter bird species across North America, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday at Nixon County Park.
Volunteers will monitor the birds at the Nature Center feeders. Data is forwarded to Cornell so scientists can evaluate trends in populations, diseases, rare sightings, etc.
Volunteers are needed to fill time slots each Tuesday and Wednesday through early April. Volunteers need no prior birding experience. Those interested should contact Kelsey Frey at Nixon County Park at (717) 428-1961. For information on this and other programs, go to www.yorkcountyparks.org.
