To honor their service for Veterans Day, many local restaurants will offer free meals to veterans and active duty military.

Most locations require that active, retired or former military personnel provide proof of service, such as a military or VA card, or discharge papers.

The growing list of locations offering free food on Sunday and Monday includes:

*Applebee's - Participating Applebee's will be giving away free meals on Sunday from a limited Veterans Day menu that includes steak, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, salad, pasta, chicken and shrimp. This deal is dine-in only.

*Chili's - Visit Chili's on Sunday and get your Veterans Day free meal if you are a veteran or on active military duty. You'll get to choose between OldTimer with Cheese, Chicken Crispers, Margarita Chicken, Classic Turkey Sandwich (Full), Lighter Choices Grilled Chicken Salad, Soup & Salad (this does not include the Bottomless Express Lunch), Cajun Chicken Pasta or Chicken Bacon Ranch Quesadilla. There's also a reduced cost ($5) for any dessert. Valid on dine-in only.

*Denny's - Stop by Denny's on Monday and all active, non-active and retired military personnel can get free all you can eat pancakes from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

*Friendly's - Until 11 a.m. Monday, the restaurant will offer a free Big Two Do breakfast and coffee to visitors who show proof of military service, which is required for the complimentary meal. The Big Two Do includes two eggs, two strips of bacon or sausage, and a choice of two slices of toast, buttermilk pancakes or French toast.

*Hooter's - Stop by a participating Hooters anytime on Sunday and get 10 boneless wings for free. A drink purchase is required.

*Hoss's - If you are a veteran or active duty military member, you can get a free meal at Hoss's on Monday. This is a free meal off their American Values Menu which includes the choice of sirloin, chicken parmesan, tilapia, salad bar, fried shrimp, meatloaf, grilled or fired chicken tenders or thick-cut ham. All of these are served with soup, salad, dessert bar and a beverage.

*LongHorn Steakhouse - LongHorn Steakhouse is giving away free Texas Tonions and non-alcoholic beverages to veterans and active military who stop in on Sunday.

*Olive Garden - Olive Garden is having a Veterans Day free meal for all veterans and those on active duty on Sunday. Veterans can choose from Seafood Alfredo, Chicken Parmigiana, Unlimited Soup, Salad, & Bread sticks, Grilled Sausage & Peppers Rustica, Cheese Ravioli or Spaghetti with Meat Sauce. All these entrees come with freshly baked garlic breadsticks and choice of soup or salad.

*Outback Steakhouse - Stop into any Outback Steakhouse on Sunday and Monday to get a free Bloomin' Onion and Coca-Cola product. This offer is for veterans as well as active duty military.

*Red Lobster - Veterans and active duty military can stop by Red Lobster and get a free appetizer on Sunday. They get to choose from Buffalo Chicken Bites, Southwest Chicken Pizza, Sweet Chili Shrimp, Crisp Calamari & Vegetables, Lobster Artichoke Dip, Lobster Pizza, Lobster-Stuffed Mushrooms, Parrot Island Coconut Shrimp or Wood-Grilled Shrimp Bruschetta.

*Sheetz - All of those who have served in the military will receive two free hot dogs with toppings and a 22-ounce fountain drink. The offer is good Monday with a valid military ID or proof of service.

*Texas Roadhouse - Texas Roadhouse will be giving away Veterans Day free meals for lunch on Monday to active, former, or retired military. Free entrees include a choice of steak, country fried chicken, country fried sirloin, pulled pork, pork chop, cheeseburger, BBQ chicken sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, grilled chicken salad or chicken critter salad plus your choice of sides. You'll also get a free Coca-Cola product, tea or coffee.

*T.G.I. Friday's - T.G.I. Friday's will be having free lunch for all veterans from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at participating locations. Each veteran can chose one meal from the lunch menu.
