More than 14,000 York County customers were without power Tuesday morning as the effects of Hurricane Sandy continued to batter the region.

Met-Ed reported 13,895 customers were without power, and 154 PPL customers reported outages.

York Township residents were most affected, with 1,309 outages.

Power was also lost in Newberry Township, where nearly 1,100 residents reported outages. About 960 Windsor Township customers were without power and 791 outages were reported in Manchester Township.

Many other local municipalities reported outages, each affecting 300 to 700 people, and nearly 70 York City customers were without power at 5:30 a.m.

Since Hurricane Sandy made landfall along the New Jersey shore Monday evening, nearly 7 million power outages have been reported throughout the northeast, according to national news reports. More than 650,000 of those outages were reported in Pennsylvania, with 80,000 tallied across the Susquehanna Valley, according to the reports.

According to forecasters, the record-breaking storm is the largest to ever hit the Atlantic Basin and will affect 60 million people before it finally dissipates and drifts north.
