The American Red Cross announced that two shelters for victims of Hurricane Sandy will open at noon on Monday.

Shelters will be open at the York County School of Technology, 2179 S. Queen St. in York Township, and Northern High School, 653 S. Baltimore St., Dillsburg, according to a news release.

Those who plan to go to a shelter should bring identification, needed medicines and medical equipment, pillows, towels, blankets, clothes, books and magazines, personal care items.

The schools were chosen because in the past they have been near high-flooded areas, according to Red Cross officials. The shelters opened at noon on Monday, and can accommodate at least 100 people each, although Red Cross officials said they are not sure how many people could be displaced as of early Monday afternoon.

Parents of children and infants should bring infant supplies such as formula and diapers and items to comfort and entertain the children, the Red Cross said.

Glen Rock officials will open a temporary shelter at Trinity UCC at 27-29 Manchester St. in the borough, according to a news release from Glen Rock officials.

Pet owners should take animals needing shelter to the York County SPCA with any needed food and medications.
