The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch and a high wind watch for York County.

The flood watch begins Sunday evening; the high wind watch begins Monday morning. Both extend through Tuesday.

The weather service says the remnants of Hurricane Sandy are likely to dump 3 to 6 inches of rain on the area, with most of the precipitation falling Monday and Monday night.

The flood watch means there is the potential for flooding along small streams and creeks, areas with poor drainage and in urban and low-lying areas.

Beginning Monday afternoon, winds of 30 to 40 mph are expected, with gusts up to 65 mph.

With leaves still on the trees, the combination of rain and wind could lead to many downed trees and limbs, leading to widespread power outages.
