A York City man stabbed in the chest Thursday night told officers his wound was "just a scratch" and declined to give them details of what happened, police said. He was taken to York Hospital, where he allegedly assaulted a doctor and a nurse.

Randall Lee Alloway, 31, of the 600 block of Chestnut Street, was arrested at York Hospital about 10:30 p.m. and taken to the county's central booking unit.

On Friday morning he was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and disorderly conduct, and was being taken to county prison on $30,000 bail.

Officers were called to the first block of North Queen Street about 10:15 p.m. Thursday for a reported stabbing.

There, they were met by a woman who told them Alloway didn't want to speak with them and only wanted to talk with an ambulance crew, police said.

She said Alloway had been stabbed in the chest about 9:30 p.m., but that she didn't know anything else about the incident. Officers later learned the stabbing might have happened near the corner of North Queen and East Philadelphia streets.

Rebuffed: An officer tried to speak with Alloway, but was rebuffed.

"I had a confrontation with a guy -- end of story," Alloway told him, according to police. "This is just a scratch to a giant like me."

An ambulance took him to York Hospital, but he didn't remain there long.

While hospital staffers were treating him, Alloway yelled threatening remarks to them and acted "in a very violent manner," according to police, who said Alloway pushed a nurse and tried to grab and push one of the doctors.

He was restrained by hospital security until police arrived and arrested him.

Alloway told officers he didn't understand why he was being arrested and claimed he was acting in self-defense because he still felt threatened from the earlier stabbing, police said.
