The Big 33 Scholarship Foundation, Inc. has announced the signing of a five-year agreement to pit Pennsylvania's best high school football players against prep all-stars from the state of Maryland.

Starting with the 57th PNC Big 33 Football Classic on Saturday June 15, 2013, Pennsylvania and Maryland's football standouts will renew a rivalry last played in 1992.

Maryland will replace Ohio as the opponent for Pennsylvania's prep all-stars, marking the ninth change in opponents during the Big 33's history, which has included national all-star teams, an all Pennsylvania East-West format, and all-star teams from Texas, Ohio, and Maryland.

Pennsylvania and Ohio have been meeting since 1993. Ohio won the last four meetings in the series. Over the last 20 years, Ohio held an 11-9 edge in the series. When Pennsylvania and Maryland squared off from 1985 until 1992, Pennsylvania held a 6-2 edge vs. its southern neighbor.

Maryland boasted a record 76 Division 1 Scholarship Players in 2012, including 10 four-star and 26 three-star recruits with the Class of 2013.

"The Big 33 is happy to welcome back Maryland to the PNC Big 33 Football Classic," said Dave Trimbur, Executive Director of the Big 33 Scholarship Foundation. "The competition, as well as the proximity to Hershey, will allow this to continue to be the premier high school football all-star game in America."

There has never been a Super Bowl played without a former Big 33 player.

The Big 33 Scholarship Foundation will hold a news conference on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 11:30 a.m. During this event, after a brief statement, representatives from the Big 33, Maryland and Pennsylvania's Coaches Associations will be available to answer questions from the media.
