A Fairview Township man who allegedly held a knife to his live-in girlfriend's throat during a dispute is free on $5,000 bail.

Jason Edward Pechart, 35, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment, according to Fairview Township Police.

Officers responded to the Cardinal Lane home that Pechart shares with his girlfriend just before midnight on Saturday.

The officers were told that Pechart became angry and squeezed the unnamed woman's jaw and choked her until she couldn't breathe. At one point Pechart told the woman he was going to kill her and held a knife to her throat, police allege.

The woman was able to get away and called for help. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of pain she was experiencing from the alleged assault, police said.
