A man offered a boy a ride and candy in an attempt to lure him into a vehicle in New Freedom Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened along Singer Road about 3:20 p.m., according to Southern Regional Police.
The 13-year-old boy got off a school bus and was walking home when a Honda passed him, backed up and the driver asked the boy if he were lost or needed a ride, police said.
The boy said no and started to walk away, but the man asked him if he wanted candy, police said.
The boy was able to run home without further incident, police said.
Police describe the driver as a balding white man in his 40s with a beard and a mustache.
