York City Police are searching for a man who unsuccessfully tried to rob a bank on Tuesday morning.

The man tried to rob the M&T Bank at 800 E. Market St. about 11:20 a.m., but ended up fleeing without getting any cash, according to York County 911 radio transmissions. He did not show a weapon.

He ran south on Sherman Street, then turned into an alley, according to dispatches.

The man is described as black, in his 20s, a little less than 6 feet tall, with scruffy facial hair, according to dispatchers. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt, black hat, black glasses and black sneakers with a yellow Nike "swoosh," according to dispatches.

Anyone with information on the would-be robber's identity or whereabouts can call 911.
