Two York College soccer players have been honored by the Capital Athletic Conference.
York junior defender Aaron Beale has been named the CAC Men's Soccer Defensive Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday.
Beale spearheaded a pair of Spartan shutout wins this past week. In the 1-0 victory over Gettysburg, Beale played all 90 minutes, helping York limit the Bullets to four total shots and three shots on goal. In the 4-0 win over St. Mary's, Beale played the first 64:11 of the game before subbing out in the lopsided win. The Spartan defense held the Seahawks to four total shots with just two of those chances coming on target. For the year, the Spartan defense has allowed 10 goals in 15 games, good for a 0.67 goals against average.
York senior defender Caitlin Aversa has been named the CAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Aversa led the Spartans to two strong performances that resulted in the team's 11th and 12th shutouts of the season. In Saturday's CAC win over defending champion Salisbury, Aversa and the defense held the Sea Gulls to just three shots on goal (eight total), extending the streak of blanking opponents to 873 minutes. In a midweek shutout at Gettysburg, she pushed up late in the second overtime and finished a play that resulted in the game-winning goal.
